ASU Nuclear Initiative: Nuclear Energy Open Lecture Series
The ASU Nuclear Initiative announces the start of its 2020 nuclear energy open lecture series. The Mechanical Power Engineering Department at Ain Shams University has coordinated this valuable crash course in Nuclear Technology in collaboration with the National Nuclear Research University, MEPhI, and Rosatom Corporation. We are delighted to offer this workshop to the general public from all universities and institutes interested in the topic on a first-come first served basis.
Workshop Details:
Time: 4:00-7:00 PM
Dates: 10-12 February 2020
Location: Hall C, Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University
The admission will be based on those who register below on a first-come first-served basis.
The following courses will be delivered throughout the workshop:
1st) Inspection/diagnostics methods and systems for nuclear power plants
Prof. Alexander Nakhabov
Date: 10/2/2020 @ Hall C
The course provides a general information about different methods and automated systems of non-destructive testing (inspection) and main diagnostics systems used at modern nuclear power plants of Russian design. Concepts of preventive detection of defects and faults in pipelines and equipment of NPPs during operation via using monitoring systems are described as well.
2nd) Power equipment of nuclear power plants with a VVER-1000 reactor: The basic principles of work
Prof. Dmitry Samokhin
Date: 11/2/2020 @ Hall C
Date: 12/2/2020 @ Hall A
This lecture explains the main component of the nuclear island in a nuclear power plant. It explains the basic power generation principles, and focuses on the design of AES-2006 Pressurised Water Reactor (VVER-1200) in terms of structures of the components; materials selection; manufacturing of the main components; operation history of the existing VVER-1000 reactors. The lecture material includes visual drawings, video files and 3D graphics
