Course Description:
There is a huge difference between "product design" and "engineering design". As an engineer, you focus on the engineering design principles related to your specialization. You look at the internal engineering details. However, most engineering students never get exposed to product design principles. In product design, designers focus on the "usability" of the product and how it interfaces with the users. Product designers focus on how to give the user the best experience while using their designed product. There are many products out there but they never sell, because the users never understand how to use them or the user interaction with the product is terrible. That is why engineers with a good "product design" background are really needed in the market, and if found, they easily get 2X the salary of a regular engineering graduate.
In this course, the instructor, who has more than 20 years of experience in the field, will teach you some of the product design basics that will enable you to better understand product design. The objective is to have you take this extracurricular training early on in your education so that you can implement what you learn in all projects you do until you graduate.
This product design workshop will go through the essentials of Innovative Product Design and Development. The course will inform the participants about the overall aspects of Industrial Design including Need Finding, Design Methodology, Innovation and Problem Solving, Product Graphics, Interaction Design, Product Ergonomics, Product Aesthetics, etc.
The course is scheduled to have lecture and discussion sessions followed by workshops on Product Design related creative problem solving sessions.
Training Class Size:
20 (max)
