Network and Information Security​​ Workshop

Training Description:
  1. The training program aims at maximizing the students’ knowledge in the field of Network Security, giving the skills required to develop a security infrastructure, recognize threats and vulnerabilities to networks, and mitigate security threats.
  2. The program studies the topics of securing routers and switches and their associated networks, installation, troubleshooting and monitoring network devices to maintain integrity, confidentiality and availability of data and devices
  3. The program is a mixture of stand-up instruction, guided discussions, and individual and group exercises used to deliver a practically-oriented learning outcome.
  4.  The program is divided to classes and workshops in the following topics:
  • Review to fundamentals of networking (students should have basic knowledge and skills in data networking) (6 hours)
  • Security threats, cryptography concepts, AAA concepts, securing routers and switches, mitigation procedures (14 hours)
  • Firewall basic technologies, configuration and management, security policies, user management (10 hours)
  • VPN technology, IPSec and SSL technologies (10 hours)
  • Firewall UTM technologies, IDS and IPS technologies (10 hours)
  • Group labs and project (20 hours)

Group Project 
Each group of 4-5 students will be required to design, create, configure and maintain a complete physical network environment from scratch, provide basic security requirements to manage and secure the network remotely, configure a firewall with all the required policies to use as the network gateway, and finally test the current environment from an outside network.

Test exam
A written/online exam is taken at the end of the program to evaluate student’s performance.
