iLab'15 Internship @ EMF

About the Company:
Engineering & Manufacturing Facility (EMF) is specialized in design and fabrication of industrial handling equipment and general products, we have the experience and knowledge to work with new designs and complex products which accommodate mechanical and electronic systems as well as un-conventional production process like cnc (machining and 2D cutting) and composite fabrication

What you will be working on?
Self-balancing (inverted pendulum) theory is one of the most interesting technologies currently used in single person electrically propelled vehicles due to the unique driving technique, customer appeal and fewer parts utilized, as well as the modular electrical control system that made it very easy to prototype and fabricate such systems
Our concentration will be initially on wheelchair utilizing this technique as it is not yet widely spread in Egypt and in other countries as well, which can give us the niche to be one of the pioneers in this market, then also on the standing scooter that also utilize this technology as it is very new to the Egyptian market also it doesn’t require a huge amount to produce to start the business as it is very expensive compared to the locally fabricated one.
Objectives
·         Design and fabrication of a wheelchair with self-balancing technology
·         Design and fabrication of single and double wheel scooter using self-balancing technology
·         Production arrangements for the 2 products including feasibility studies and needed arrangements
·         Including a mobile application to monitor and drive the product and other features

Scope of project
1-Deign and sourcing phase: All designs should be ready with the selection of the parts needed to be purchased including international purchases to be done to save the lead time for manufacturing and shipping, also all modeling, simulation, and drafting should be done in this phase to start the next step
2-Fabrication and assembly phase: Manufacturing of subassemblies and acquiring the international and local purchased items and assembly for testing and validation
3-Testing, validation and design modification: In this phase all parts should be put under sever working condition with all functional and environmental extreme condition for validation of the product reliability and functionality, road test and lab fatigue tests should be taken as far as possible to both products
4-Feasibility studies and production arrangements: Preparation of all studies and documentation required including tooling and other production arrangements required for a small business startup that can take this project to life after the final phase
