Experience
- Prior field work experience; university field work a minimum but additional professional field experience preferred.
- Science laboratory experience desired.
- Familiar with, and experience using, various scientific instruments and sensors.
- Data collection, management and analysis.
- Experience with leading small team projects.
Skills, Abilities and Knowledge
- Proficient computer skills; Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Google Earth and Email.
- An understanding of fundamental scientific principles, including; basic plant physiology, soil formation, and landscape processes.
- Knowledge of Egyptian agricultural practices and regulations governing water use and land use.
- An understanding of different types of irrigation practices and irrigation scheduling methods.
- Excellent decision-making skills and willing to adapt to challenges and solve problems.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize and work towards objectives without close supervision.
- Willingness to converse with farmers, officials and other company representatives.
- Desire for personal success and that of your team/company.
- To have a vision of sustainability and solving world problems.
- Ability to read, write and communicate fluently & effectively in English.
Preferred Knowledge and Experience
- Knowledge in crop disease, weed and/or pest management.
- Soil sampling experience preferable.
- Knowledge regarding precision agricultural equipment, e.g. GPS devices, wireless network monitoring & drones.
- Proficiency with Geographic Information Systems is a plus.
- An innovative individual with a passion for technology will be highly valued.
Duties
- Help coordinate research projects and deployment of in-field sensors.
- Spearhead research into the adoption of nation-wide Egyptian precision agriculture.
- Data management and analysis of field data.
- Equipment/sensor calibration.
- Soil sampling and soil description when necessary.
- Frequent communication & collaboration with team members, including weekly updates by audio conferencing.
- Periodic travel to communicate with farmers, deploy sensor networks and troubleshoot issues.
- Assimilation of research information and report writing.
- Presentation of data and research in written and graphical form.
- Management & supervision of agriculture interns during field projects.
