Practical Training Options for BLDG Students

In addition to curricular knowledge that you acquire in the university, a successful engineer should have been exposed to practical aspects of his career. At iHub ( in collaboration with the administration of the university), we have devised several training options to suit different levels and are spaced (as much as possible) throughout the summer.

Level 1

Building Workshops + CAD Training
Fees: 2 Credit Hours
Training Credit: 4 weeks
This level includes:
  • 3-4 weeks of hands-on workshops at the Arab Contractors labs (Gesr ElSuez Site) to demonstrate the different jobs done at a construction site, how it should be conducted,and how it should be delivered and tested. Students are expected to pass a final demo test at the end.
  • 2 weeks of training on CAD suites such as AutoCAD held at the ASU IT Unit.

    ​​4-6 weeks in the period 13/8/17-21/9/17

Level 2
(Must show proof of completing Level 1)

Field Workshops + CAD Training
​Fees: 2 Credit Hours
Training Credit: 4 weeks
This level includes:
  • 3-4 weeks of hands-on workshops in industry central labs or in any of the university units. These workshops could be related to site surveying, concrete mixtures. This may also include field training on sites of traditional buildings constructed by medium sized contractors. 
  • 1-2 weeks of "possible" computer software training on CAD suites such as : SAP2000, ETABS, REVIT, Primavera Project Mgmt, Primavera Risk Analysis  held at the ASU IT Unit.
When?
  1. Option 1
    4-6 weeks in the period 2/7/17-10/8/17 
  2. Option 2
    4-6 weeks in the period 30/7/17-5/9/17 
  3. Option 3
    ​4-6 weeks in the period 13/8/17-21/9/17

Level 3
​(Must show proof of completing Level 2)

On-site Training + CAD Training
​Fees: 2 Credit Hours
Training Credit: 4 weeks
This level includes:
  • 3-4 weeks of on-site field or office design training in one of the projects of ECG, Arab Contractors, Orascom, Dar Al-Handasah, ACE Consulting or a similar company. Training would be different for constructions and project management students.
  • 1-2 weeks of "possible" computer software training on CAD suites such as : SAP2000, ETABS, REVIT, Primavera Project Mgmt, Primavera Risk Analysis  held at the ASU IT Unit.

  1. Option 1

    4-6 weeks in the period 30/7/17-5/9/17 
  3. Option 3

Internship Abroad

Project Management students who are willing to be responsible for all travel & accommodation expenses have the option to travel for a 12 week internship consulting firms in the USA.

Zero Energy House Contest​ (Must show proof of completing Level 2)

​Fees: 2 Credit Hours
Training Credit: 6 weeks
BLDG students will have the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and abilities by joining interdisciplinary teams competing to build the best Zero Energy Houses. Teams will focus on designing houses that satisfy certain needs and constraints such that it generates all energy needed for the consumption of its inhabitants. Teams will be mentored by professionals and will include students from other disciplines such as architecture, energy. mechatronics, communication, software and business. Maximum number of BLDG students per team is one. The best teams will be selected by panel of highly experienced judges, nationally recognized and will win a valuable cash prize.
